Bees, Honey and Love

Rumi

With Love
With love bitter things seem sweet
With love bits of copper are made gold
Without love soft wax hardens like iron
With love poison turns into honey.

By the Moving, Omnipotent and Everlasting God
For from the moment that you journeyed forth,
we became separated from sweetness like wax;
All the night we are burning like candles,
paired to his flame and deprived of honey

No longer a stranger
No longer a stranger,
you listen all day to these crazy love-words.
Like a bee you fill hundreds of homes with honey,
though yours is a long flight from here.

Your soul is an invisible bee
Look how desire has changed in you,
how light and colorless it is,
with the world growing new marvels
because of your changing.

Your soul has become an invisible bee. We
don't see it working, but there's
the full honeycomb! Your body's height,
six feet or so, but your soul rises
through nine levels of sky.
